As soon as I saw the casting choices I pretty much decided to write the movie off. If they couldn't even pay the respect to pick actor's that looked like the characters then I highly doubt they'll pay proper respect to the plot and the feeling of the TV show.
I saw one person arguing that the casting department weren't in the wrong because it was a different world, and therefore there weren't any Asians/etc... on that planet. So they could interpret it anyway they wanted to. Which wasn't quite hitting the marker, cause sure it's a different world BUT the character's were designed after racial groups in our world. They should have cast the girl from Whale Rider (if she was still young enough) for the Avatar movie.
